I noted earlier that the member for Kavel in his maiden speech talked about community spirit, and the Barossa is certainly full of that, and the broader Schubert electorate is certainly full of that. I am so proud that they have given me the opportunity to continue to be their local MP.

I rise to speak to the 'Paddock to the plate: a fair return for producers' report conducted by the Economic and Finance Committee. I was gladly surprised when the member for Light came and proposed terms of reference in this way to help look at an issue that
is very important to South Australia. We know that our agriculture and food manufacturing industries are the largest employers in South Australia. They employ one in five South Australians. Happily, that is more than the level of people employed in the Public Service in South Australia. For us to help unlock the potential of this industry is extremely important.

I rise to make a brief contribution on this and not to go over the ground that other speakers have gone over except to say congratulations to the Women in Agriculture and Business on their 100-year anniversary. A woman in my office by the name of
Courtney is a local of Saddleworth and Riverton and knows all things that go on over there and has been talking to me quite a bit about the work that these people do in her local community.

I rise also to wish the Crows well on the weekend. I have my scarf here ready to go and I look forward to sitting down with my five-year-old nephew as he hosts us and the rest of the family for the Crows game on Saturday afternoon. I hope for all of South Australia's sake, but especially his sake, that the Crows get up on the weekend. We have been trying to counsel him to make sure that he can withstand a potential loss, not that that is what we are considering.

I want to start off with a quote because this is a topic that I have canvassed before and it is a topic that the member for Kaurna and I have canvassed before in the public square in relation to how councils operate and conduct their business. In 2013, the
government undertook a Local Excellence Expert Panel into local government. In speaking about councils, the Hon. Greg Crafter AO made the following statement:

I rise this afternoon to give a grievance on the Supply Bill as it relates to the unsurpassed electorate of Schubert. We may not have coastline—we may have, though, a dam that becomes open for non-motorised recreational boating and fishing activities in the Warren Reservoir, and I am looking forward to seeing that happen. The absence of coastline is more than abundantly made up by some extremely picturesque scenery and the best shiraz, riesling and semillon in the known world. 

Mr KNOLL ( Schubert ) ( 17:32 ):

I rise today to talk about an issue that is very pertinent to my electorate and to one of the biggest industries in South Australia and one of the most celebrated industries in South Australia. As the member for Schubert, I am, by definition, a supporter of the wine industry. It is one of our great success stories and it melds the strengths that South Australia traditionally has in agricultural production with advanced manufacturing.

My electorate is named after Max Schubert, whose stewardship and invention of Grange has spurred Penfolds to recently be named as the world's most admired wine brand. Indeed, Ray Beckwith, in my electorate, was a great pioneer in the stabilisation of pH, which is one of the reasons we are able to have such a successful wine industry and which exports wine products globally.

So, when I see information in the media and groups who put forward proposals that would do undue harm to my electorate, that would, in essence, shut down my electorate, I feel compelled to speak out. A couple of weeks ago in the media changes were reported that would see wine taxed at instead of the current wine equalisation tax but would change to a situation where the cost of a $15 to $20 bottle of wine would increase by $3.80. We would be looking at 20 per cent to 30 per cent increase in the cost of wine.

Mr Stephan Knoll MP, Member for Schubert and Chair of the State Liberals’ WasteWatch Committee has today released a book detailing ‘40 Reasons Why You Can’t Trust Labor with Your Money’.

Mr KNOLL ( Schubert ) ( 15:44 ): I rise today to talk on the Pinery fire that affected parts of my electorate last week. At the start, I would like to acknowledge and briefly mention Janet Hughes and Allan Tiller, the two members of our community who lost their lives last week. Interestingly, both of them were moving in vehicles around the fire, and it does seem that there was a great risk for those people who were in transition during that fire period when it was coming over. 

This issue of people leaving South Australia is quite personal for me. 

I commend the member for Chaffey for bringing this issue to the house. It is an issue that is very close to my heart. I am technically a member of the gen Y generation. I probably act a little more generation X in getting married and buying my
first home at quite a young age but still those around me are very much gen Y.
