Potts Road roundabout construction underway
Stage 1 works for the Potts Road roundabout as part of the Gawler East Link Road project starts this week.
This roundabout is one of three to be constructed along the GELR and will be its southern entry point.
“Once completed, the GELR will provide local traffic and traffic from the Southern Barossa with direct access to Main North Road, without having to travel through Gawler’s main street,” Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll said.
“We invested an extra $5 million into this $59.97 million project in order to enable this roundabout at the Potts Road intersection as well as future services infrastructure.
“This roundabout was something the Town of Gawler and local community had been calling for during early designs.
“The Marshall Government listened to this feedback, and we delivered.
“Gawler is a rapidly changing town and this project will enable future growth, as well as delivering reduced travel times and congestion in the area.”
Works on the Potts Road roundabout are expected to be completed by June (weather permitting).
Features of the roundabout include:
• Offset roundabout to allow for potential future link road extensions
• One lane in each direction on approach to the roundabout intersection
• New asphalt surfacing and line marking
• Improved pedestrian facilities including footpath and crossing points
• LED lighting.
With traffic restrictions already in place on Potts Road for pre-existing works as part of the project, there will be no new impacts to commuters.
The pre-existing traffic restrictions on Potts Road (lane closure for westbound and detour) are occurring between Main North Road and Mueller Drive and are expected to remain in place until the second quarter of 2020.
Bowman Court will not have any speed restrictions, the only restrictions will be to Potts Road and Mueller Drive as is already in place.
