Celebrating Schubert's generous volunteers

As National Volunteer Week (May 21-27) draws to a close, Member for Schubert Stephan Knoll has paid tribute to the countless volunteers which are the lifeblood of this community.

South Australia leads the way when it comes to volunteering in Australia.

The 2016 Census found that some 21.4 per cent of South Australians said they did volunteer work through a organisation or group in the past 12 months – above the national average of 19pc.

The Schubert electorate has the fifth highest rate of volunteering in the state.

“This week, we celebrate the countless volunteers who continue to give selflessly of themselves, bettering the lives of not only those who need a helping hand, but of the Barossa community as a whole,” Mr Knoll said.

Across the electorate, volunteers have been recognised at various celebrations throughout the week.

Light Regional Council and The Barossa Council have each held special functions, and individual organisations such as Meals on Wheels Barossa have also hosted dedicated events.

Mr Knoll said thank you didn’t seem quite enough for the hundreds of hours donated by the region’s volunteers.

“Our community spirit is what makes this the best electorate in the country!”
